CCPD Academy
Academy Overview
Our Academy is designed to prepare cadets to become the professional, capable, and community-focused officers that the public both expects and deserves. The Academy spans 34 weeks and combines comprehensive classroom instruction with hands-on practical skills training and structured physical fitness development.
Curriculum Highlights
Classroom instruction covers a wide range of essential topics, including:
- Constitutional Law
- Texas Penal Code
- Professionalism and Ethics
- Cultural Diversity
- De-escalation Techniques
Cadets also receive practical, scenario-based training in critical areas such as:
- Defensive Tactics
- Rescue Swimming
- Emergency Vehicle Operations
- Firearms Proficiency
- DWI Enforcement
Physical fitness and Defensive Tactics are core components of the Academy. Our certified trainers conduct weekly sessions designed to challenge cadets physically and mentally.
Our cadets consistently maintain a strong track record of success on the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer Licensing Exam, with a high passing rate that reflects the quality and effectiveness of our training program and instructional staff.
Logistics and Support
Cadets reside off-campus during the Academy. For those relocating to Corpus Christi, several conveniently located apartment complexes are available nearby. The Department provides Academy uniforms and cadets are responsible for their own footwear.
A Challenge Worth Pursuing
The Academy is demanding and only those who demonstrate commitment, resilience, and a strong work ethic will succeed. If you are prepared to give your best – physically, mentally, and ethically – you may be among those who earn the honor of graduation.
We encourage you to hear directly from our current and former cadets about their experience and the impact the Academy has had on their careers.
