I joined my Corpus Christi Police Department family in 2009 as a Crime Prevention Specialist, in a civilian capacity. After working closely with officers in that position, I knew I wanted to wear the uniform and give back to the community, where I was born and raised, to make a difference. A couple of years later, I was accepted to the 70th Police Academy, which provided me the training and knowledge needed to succeed in my Law Enforcement career.

Today, my work experience has been working in patrol, then I moved to a specialized unit as a Directed Patrol Officer, and currently I am part of our CCPD Background & Recruiting team.

CCPD has allowed me opportunities to grow within the department, that has given me many positive experiences as a police officer in serving our citizens of this community. Most importantly, my experience as a female police officer has been great due to the community support, I was introduced to. My only regret is that I did not join my CCPD family sooner.

I am Officer Gustavo Medina, a proud native of Corpus Christi and the son of Mexican immigrants. I encountered my share of challenges during my youth, growing up in a high crime neighborhood that tested my resilience and shaped my perspective. With the unwavering support and guidance of my parents, especially my father, I developed the discipline and work ethic that ultimately redirected my path.

After graduating from high school, I returned to a childhood dream of becoming a police officer, an aspiration sparked by watching Power Rangers and the television show COPS. In going through the application process twice, I was accepted into the 78th Police Academy class and proudly graduated in 2020.

Since joining the department, I have served in patrol, served as an adjunct instructor for the 83rd Academy class, and contributed to both the Crime Reduction Unit and the Violent Crimes Unit. Throughout my career, I’ve been honored to receive several awards, including Life Saving Award, Police Shield Award, NAPO Top Cop 2022, Region 3 Officer of the Year, and the Star of Texas Award.

Currently, I serve as one of the Department’s Recruiters. I am deeply committed to guiding the next generation of officers, helping them understand that policing is not just a job, but a calling that demands integrity, resilience, and compassion. I strive to mentor applicants with honesty and transparency, and I remain dedicated to building a stronger, safer community through exceptional service and leadership.

Investigator Kyle Simmons has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2015. Through his career, he has worked as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Traffic Officer, K-9 handler, and Adjunct Academy Training Instructor. Senior Officer Simmons is currently assigned as a Background investigator, where he helps maintain the department’s high standards in the recruitment and hiring process.

Investigator Kris Simmons has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 1982. Throughout his career, he has worked as a Patrol Officer, SWAT team leader, Police Academy Instructor, Recruiting Officer, and Criminal investigator. Since 2011, he has continued his service as a Background Investigator. Senior Officer Simmons remains an active member of the department and is dedicated to leading prospective applicants through the hiring process.

Investigator Rodriguez grew up in the Corpus Christi area and has served with the Corpus Christ Police Department since 1998. His assignments have included Patrol Officer, Crime Stoppers Coordinator, Recruiting Officer, and he currently serves as a Background Investigations Coordinator. Senior Officer Rodriguez enjoys introducing prospective applicants to a career in law enforcement and is committed to identifying candidates who exemplify dedication to serving the citizens of Corpus Christi.

Investigator Kureska is a veteran of the Corpus Christi Police Department, completing a distinguished 33-year career with assignments including Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Peer Support Coordinator, Lieutenant in Patrol, Traffic Safety, and the Criminal Investigation Division. He was honored as Supervisor of the Year in 2012. Following his retirement, Investigator Kureska continued his dedicated service to the department by becoming a background investigator, a role he has fulfilled since 2014.

Investigator Nancy Lee is a 30-year veteran of the Corpus Christi Police Department. During her career, she served as Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Background Investigator, DARE officer, and Shift Supervisor. She was recognized as Officer of the Month for her role in the apprehension of four offenders involved in an armed robbery. Upon her retirement from the department, Investigator Lee continued her dedicated service by returning as a Background Investigator, a position she has held since April 2014.

Investigator Adam Villarreal is a 32-year veteran of the Corpus Christi Police Department. During his career, he served as a Patrol Officer, Juvenile Enforcement Team (JET)/Gang Unit Officer, Field Training Officer in both Patrol and Gang Units, Bicycle Unit Officer, Training Academy Instructor, and Traffic Division Officer. He was also assigned to the Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF), working alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Homeland Security. In addition, he served 22 years with the SWAT Team as an Assistant Team Leader, Tactical Marksman Team Leader, and entry team member. Following his retirement, Investigator Villarreal continued his dedicated service to the department by serving as a Background Investigator since January 2022.

Investigator Ruben Vela, Jr. served with distinction for 37 years with the Corpus Christi Police Department, before retiring in 2019. During his career, he earned the Master Peace Officer Proficiency Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. His assignments included Field Training Instructor, Criminal Investigation Division Detective, Vice and Narcotics Investigator, Hostage Negotiation Team member, and Internal Affairs Investigator, contributing to the department’s standards of integrity and professionalism. Following his retirement, Investigator Vela continued his dedicated service to the department by serving as a Background Investigator.

Investigator Robert Nunez began his career with the Corpus Christi Police Department in 1999. His assignments included Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and later the Traffic Unit, where he served for 24 years. Within the Traffic Unit, he worked as a Crash Car Officer before becoming a Police Motor Officer, a role he held for 16 years. Investigator Nunez also became a Police Motors Instructor and served as the Academy’s Traffic Law Instructor for 22 years. In addition, he worked as a Detective in the Motor Crimes Unit, investigating fatal crashes and filing criminal cases with the District Attorney’s Office.

Investigator Nunez received a Letter of Commendation in 2014 for evacuating 15 to 20 hotel guests during a fire on North Beach. He was also awarded a Letter of Recognition in 2015 for assisting in search efforts for missing children in Wimberley, Texas, following severe flash flooding. Following his retirement, Investigator Nunez continued his dedicated service to the department by serving as a Background Investigator since 2026.

Cpt. Kevin Quesada has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2010, holding assignments in Patrol, Traffic, and the Narcotics and Vice Unit. Investigations. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2019 and assigned to the Operations Division, where he supervised the Traffic Unit and Uniform Patrol. He later transitioned to the Investigations Bureau to oversee the Family Violence and Child Crimes Unit.

In 2024, he was promoted to Captain, serving in Operations before assuming his current role as the Director of Training for the department. Throughout his service, Cpt. Quesada has earned multiple recognitions, including Field Training Officer, Officer of the Month, a Unit Certificate of Merit, and Supervisor of the Year in 2021.

Lt. Maria Huerta-Garcia has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2004. She has held positions in the Uniform Patrol Division, Field Training Officer, Narcotics and Vice Investigations, Traffic Division, and Administration. Lt. Huerta-Garcia has received numerous “Officer of the Month” nominations and acknowledgements and Letters of Recognition while in the Uniform Patrol Division. While in Administration, she served as the Department’s Accreditation Manager, before her promotion to the rank of Lieutenant in 2015. She was a first line supervisor in the Uniform Patrol Division and Traffic Division, before her transfer to Training in 2019. Lt. Huerta-Garcia received the 2023 Supervisor of the Year award and Certificate of Merit. She holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and is certified TCOLE Advanced Instructor. Lt. Huerta-Garcia currently serves as the Training Coordinator for the Police Department.

Senior Officer Catherine McDonald has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2000. She has held positions in the Uniform Patrol Division, Field Training Officer, Field Training Coordinator, and Background and Recruiting Division, before her transfer to Training in 2014. Sr. Officer McDonald holds instructor certificates for the following: Firearms, OC Spray, Taser, SPEAR, Arrest and Control, ICAT, Coopers Law Enforcement Fitness Specialist, AAIR (ALERRT), and American Heart Association Basic Life Support. She holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Lamar University. Sr. Officer McDonald is a certified TCOLE Advanced Instructor and currently serves as the Physical Fitness Coordinator for the Training Division.

Senior Officer Sammy Mitchell has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2011. He has held positions in the Uniform Patrol Division, Dive Team, and the Crime Reduction Unit where he was a member of the Bike Team. Sr. Officer Mitchell is also cross trained in various disciplines including Firearms, Professional Police Driving, ALERRT Level 1, AAIR (ALERRT), UTV, EDURO, and Defensive and Gracie Survival Tactics. He is currently certified as a Gracie Survival Tactics Instructor and is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Practitioner with over 20 years of experience. Sr. Officer Mitchell is a certified TCOLE Advanced Instructor and currently serves as the Defensive Tactics Instructor for the Training Division.

Senior Officer Justin Sanders served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2008. He has held positions in the Uniform Patrol Division, DWI Task Force, SWAT Operator, and Field Training Officer before his transfer into Training in 2023. Sr. Officer Sanders currently serves on the SWAT Team as an assistant team leader and lead explosive breacher. He holds instructor certifications for the following: Firearms, ERASE (ALERRT), AAIR (ALERRT), First Responder Medical (ALERRT), Injured Shooter, and Mechanical Breaching. Sr. Officer Sanders is a certified TCOLE Basic Instructor and currently serves as the Patrol/FTO Liaison for the Training Division.

Senior Officer Brian Raichert has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 1996. He has held positions in the Uniform Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Division. While in CID, Sr. Officer Raichert was assigned to the Auto Theft Task Force and specialized in Auto Theft related crimes, before his transfer to Training in 2021. He is cross trained in various disciplines including Firearms, Professional Police Driving, SORD (ALERRT), AAIR (ALERRT) and Defensive and Gracie Survival Tactics. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Lamar University. Sr. Officer Raichert is a certified TCOLE Basic Instructor and currently serves as the Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor and ALERRT Instructor for the Training Division.

Senior Officer Jason Wicks has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2012. He has held positions in the Uniform Patrol Division and the Crime Reduction Unit where he was a member of the Bike Team and the Enduro Unit, before his transfer to Training in 2022. Sr. Officer Wicks has received several Letters of Recognition and has been recognized as “Officer of the Month.” He holds instructor certifications for the following: Firearms, Red Dot, TASER, LEBA Mountain Bike Instructor, Impact Munitions, Professional Police Driving, AAIR (ALERRT), ERASE (ALERRT), and First Responder Medical (ALERRT). Sr. Officer Wicks is a certified TCOLE Advance Instructor and serves as the In-Service Coordinator for the Training Division.

Senior Officer Victoria Fabie has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2019. Her assignments have included Patrol Officer, Gang Officer, Field Training Officer, and Background Investigations, before transferring to the Training Division in 2026. She currently serves as an Assistant Team Leader on the Dive Team. Senior Officer Fabie has received multiple Letters of Recognition, the Officer of the Month award, and the Gang Investigator of the Quarter award. She is a certified TCOLE Basic Instructor and Firearms Instructor and currently serves as an Instructor within the Training Division.

Senior Officer Adam Thurman has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2007. He has held positions in the Uniform Patrol Division, Crime Reduction Unit, Field Training, and the SWAT Team. During his time in CRU, he was a Directed Patrol Officer, Bicycle Team Officer and Enduro Team Officer, until his transfer to Training Division in May 2024.  Sr. Officer Thurman has received several Letters of Recognition, three Life Saving Awards, two Certificates of Merit and numerous Officer of the Month nominations.  He is a certified TCOLE Basic Instructor and has been a Firearms Instructor since March 2015.  Sr. Officer Thurman currently serves as the Armorer for the Police Department.

Senior Officer Chance Durbin has served with the Corpus Christi Police Department since 2010. He has held positions in the Uniform Patrol Division, the Crime Reduction Unit as a Bike Team member and is a lead sniper on SWAT. Sr. Officer Durbin has distinguished accomplishments that include the Matthew Thebeau Award, two life-saving awards, two certificates of merit, physical fitness awards, the FBI Sniper School "Top Shot" recognition, several Officer of the Month nominations, and numerous letters of recognition and appreciation. He holds instructor certifications for the following: Firearms, Basic and Advanced SWAT, FBI Sniper School, Patrol Rifle, Less Lethal, IPMBA (Mountain Bike), Advanced Hostage Rescue, High Risk Vehicle Stop, and Emergency Driving Operations. Sr. Officer Durbin is a certified TCOLE Basic Instructor and currently serves as the Rangemaster for the Police Department.
