The Corpus Christi Police Department is seeking a select group of community-minded individuals ready to take on the challenge of becoming one of Corpus Christi’s finest. Criminal History

  • No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions; including deferred adjudications.
  • No Class B conviction or court-ordered supervision or probation within the past 10 years.
  • No family violence convictions.
  • No outstanding warrants or open/pending court cases.
  • No Court martial convictions for former military personnel

Driving Record

  • Two (2) or more moving convictions within 12 months.
  • Three (3) or more moving convictions within 36 months.
  • No unresolved, open or pending court/traffic cases.
  • License suspension or revocation within 24 months.

Military Service

  • Applicants who have received a dishonorable discharge are ineligible pursuant to TCOLE licensure standards.

Tattoos & Body Art:

  • No tattoos on the head, face, neck, hand - extending beyond the wrist (except for one wedding band), or body art such as gauges or facial piercings.

Use of Illicit Substances:

  • NO recent usage (within specified time) of:
    • Marijuana (12 months)
    • Vape/THC (12 months)
    • Illegal Steroids (12 months)
    • Cocaine, Ecstasy, Hashish, Mushrooms (3 years)
  • NO use of hallucinogenic drugs or other controlled substances.
  • NO delivery, sale, or manufacture of illegal drugs.
  • NO habitual or excessive drug use.

  • Complete and submit the Eligibility Questionnaire (EQ) linked below to begin.
    Police Cadet Eligibility Questionnaire

  • If your EQ is accepted, you will receive the online job application, known as the Personal History Statement (PHS). Applicants have 10 business days to complete and submit your PHS to be scheduled for the written examination.

  1. Apply
    Complete and submit the Eligibility Questionnaire to begin the hiring process.
     
  2. Complete and Submit Your Application (Personal History Statement).
    Applicants will receive a link to complete the online Personal History Statement. The PHS must be completed and submitted within 10 business days in order to be scheduled for the written examination.

  3. Written Exam and Physical Fitness Test
    You will be scheduled to take both the written exam and physical fitness test.


    Written Examination
    • Consists of 75 questions in the following categories:
      • 20 Arithmetic
      • 25 Reading Comprehension
      • 20 Grammar
      • 10 Incident Report Writing
    • Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 70% on the written exam during their first attempt.
    • Re-testing is NOT permitted for those who do not meet the 70% minimum score.

Physical Fitness Test

    • The minimum standard is to complete a 4-minute row at or above the 60th percentile for your age, weight, and gender.
    • The Physical Fitness Test is conducted on a Concept 2 Rowing machine with the damper set at 5.

  1. Background Investigation
    • If you meet the required standards, a Background Investigator will contact you to schedule a preliminary background interview and provide instructions for completing a Personal Information Packet (PIP).
    • An extensive background investigation will be conducted, including but not limited to the following: personal and family history, driving record, educational background, financial and credit history, employment and military service, and residential history.
  1. Polygraph Exam
    • After a thorough background investigation, you may be scheduled for a polygraph exam. This exam will take approximately 2 hours.
    • Business or business casual attire, no jeans.
  1. Oral Board Interview
    • After successfully completing above requirements, you will be scheduled for an Oral Board Interview.
    • The interview panel will consist of two CCPD ranking officers and one civilian Human Resources representative.
    • You will be asked a series of standardized questions designed to evaluate your: communication skills, judgement, decision making ability and character.
    • Professional business attire is required.
  1. Conditional Offer of Employment
    After you receive a conditional offer, you will be scheduled for the following evaluations:
    • Psychological Evaluation
      • You must pass an evaluation conducted by the Police Department Psychologist to determine your psychological and emotional suitability for the role.
    • Medical Exam and Drug Testing
      • You must be evaluated by a licensed physician selected by the City of Corpus Christi.
      • You must be declared physically sound and free from any condition that could adversely affect your ability to perform the duties of a police officer.

After successfully completing the psychological evaluation, medical exam and drug testing, your application file will be submitted for final review by the Chief of Police.

  1. Start the Academy
    • If selected, you will be hired by the City of Corpus Christi and begin receiving base pay as a Police Trainee.
    • The Corpus Christi Police Academy training program is 34 weeks long.
